Maginus, a leading wholesale distribution and retail IT solution provider, has completed a major project for DC Thomson, the media organisation behind The Beano and the Sunday Post, to build a single, centralised, unified financial and procurement function.
Working with Maginus, DC Thomson has implemented Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP across the Group finance function. The deployment went live at the end of 2015, enabling DC Thomson’s finance teams to handle procurement, cashflow and reconciliation with the same standardised solution. Since the go-live, the implementation has already delivered a return-on-investment, achieving cost savings, and greater speed and accuracy of accounts production.
Gillian Troup, Group Financial Controller at DC Thomson said:
“We felt comfortable working alongside Maginus as they were open and honest while offering a very personal approach. With an implementation of this scale, people make the difference between success and failure. Maginus integrated themselves into the DC Thomson team, and their tenacity and commitment were instrumental to our eventual success.”
Previously the group’s finance teams were using different accounting and financial management solutions, meaning that different finance personnel followed different processes and procedures, causing inefficiencies. To overcome this, DC Thomson decided to migrate all departments to the Microsoft Dynamics AX platform as it is a highly customisable, adaptable and scalable platform with a wide range of functionality that broadly met all of its requirements.
The company wanted a partner that had extensive experience in deploying the solution and appointed Maginus following a competitive pitch, after being impressed with the company’s knowledge of the solution and its agile approach to project delivery. Since the initial deployment, Maginus has been working with DC Thomson to evolve and customise the solution to meet the group’s specific requirements.
Mark Thornton, Marketing Director at Maginus commented: “DC Thomson is the name behind some of Britain’s best-loved and longest-running magazines and newspapers. Consolidating all of its disparate finance teams into a single Group function is a proactive move, ensuring flexibility and scalability for years to come. We have installed and customised a platform that will grow with DC Thomson, and will help enable the company to continue being a shining light in the UK’s publishing industry for years to come.”
